The International School of Bologna (ISB) has reached an important milestone: ISB is now the first Google for Education Premier Reference School in Italy. This recognition places ISB within an elite global group of fewer than 25 Google for Education Premier Reference Schools, institutions that represent the highest level of innovation in the use of Google technologies for learning.
A Journey That Started in 2017
ISB’s collaboration with Google for Education began in 2017, marking the start of a long-term commitment to transforming teaching and learning through technology. In 2019, ISB became Italy’s first Google Reference School, joining a global network of institutions recognized for their innovative use of Google tools in education. Today. the school reaches a new milestone as Italy’s first Google for Education Premier Reference School, further strengthening its role as a leader in digital learning and educational innovation.

Developing the Future of Learning
As a Premier Reference School, ISB works directly with Google to develop and test next-generation educational environments. Our students and educators often become early experimenters with emerging technologies, exploring tools and solutions even before they are released globally. This collaboration allows ISB not only to adopt cutting-edge technology, but also to actively contribute to shaping the future of education.
Advanced Technology, Responsible Innovation
At ISB, innovation always goes hand in hand with safety and responsibility.
Advanced technologies—including Gemini AI—are integrated within a secure “Walled Garden” environment, ensuring a controlled, private, and safe digital ecosystem where students and staff can experiment, learn, and build new skills while protecting privacy and data. This approach allows the school community to develop AI literacy and digital competence while maintaining the highest standards of security.
A Collective Achievement
This recognition reflects the dedication and vision of the entire ISB community: teachers, students, and families who believe in innovation as a key driver of meaningful learning.
Special thanks go to ISB Technology Director Pio Fabriziani and Mariel Reid for their continuous collaboration in the AI integration project, and to Google Learning & Education, Marco Berardinelli, Riccardo Speidel, Emanuele Pozzi, and Gaz Lewis for their partnership and support. We also thank C2 Group, Stefano Ghidini, Gionata Noiosi, and Alessandro De Bono for their continued collaboration.
Together, we continue to shape the future of learning.
