Welcome from
Head of School
I am delighted that you are curious about the International School of Bologna (ISB). Since our inception in 2004, we have been serving a future-oriented community of local and international families in Northern Italy.
Our mission is to develop students who make an active contribution as they take their place in our ever-evolving global society. We are preparing students not just to cope with a changing world, but to lead the change.

WE ALSO TEACH ITALIAN
Our main language of instruction is English. However, we greatly value the importance of our host country's culture and language and all our students therefore learn Italian. Starting in Grade 1, our learners are provided Italian mother tongue or Italian language acquisition classes.

LEARNING TECHNOLOGY
ISB is proud to be a Google Reference School and our integration of learning technology is purposeful throughout all grade levels. We carefully balance the development of fine and gross motor skills, tactile, and sensory learning with age appropriate digital mastery.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP TIME
Our garden opens at 08:30 and our school day runs from 08:50 - 15:20 (EY) / 15:30. For our Early Years children, we offer supervised Early Morning Care from 08:00 and an After School Care Program until 16:45 (included in the main tuition fee).
Who we are?
From our Early Years to graduation, our children follow the International Baccalaureate Programmes (IB PYP, MYP, DP). In our Early Years division, we approach learning through an inquiry and play-based curriculum.
Play is central to the network of learning, and not merely recreation for learning. Play integrates the child's learning, making learning deep, broad, relevant, thorough, and imaginative. Play and first-hand experiences enable the child to struggle, manipulate, explore, discover, and practice, thus becoming highly competent in a variety of ways. Through play, children understand and express their thoughts and feelings about the world cognitively and effectively. Tina Bruce (1991) Time to Play in early childhood education
Our approaches to learning and teaching place the child in the center and offer a balance between teacher-led activities and collaborative inquiry opportunities where the children choose what they would like to do with the materials in the classroom.
