PE/PHE Teacher (PYP/MYP) — International School of Bologna Grades 1–10 | Part-Time (25%) | Bologna, Italy

Role Overview

The International School of Bologna (ISB) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Part-Time Physical and Health Education (PHE) Teacher to join our faculty on a 25% contract. Working across both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), the successful candidate will deliver dynamic, inquiry-based Physical and Health Education lessons that inspire students to embrace active, healthy lifestyles while developing essential social, emotional, and physical skills. Teaching & Learning

The teacher will plan and deliver engaging PE/PHE lessons aligned with IB PYP and MYP frameworks, adapting content and methodology to suit the developmental needs and ability levels of students from primary through to early secondary. Lessons will be concept-driven and inquiry-led, encouraging students to explore movement, health, and well-being with curiosity and critical thinking. The teacher will design appropriate differentiated programmes of instruction that set high expectations for all learners, implement fair and consistent assessment practices in line with IB guidelines, and actively promote the IB Learner Profile — particularly the attributes of balance, resilience, and caring — throughout all physical education contexts.

The teacher will monitor student progress and communicate proactively with parents and colleagues, contributing to formal reporting cycles and informal updates as needed. They will also support broader school health and well-being initiatives, reinforcing positive attitudes towards physical activity and personal wellness both inside and outside the classroom.

Classroom & Community

Despite the part-time nature of the contract, the teacher will be a fully engaged member of the ISB community. They will participate in relevant staff meetings, contribute to school assemblies and events, and collaborate closely with colleagues across both the PYP and MYP to ensure curriculum coherence and a consistent approach to student well-being. The teacher will be expected to support and encourage education outside the classroom, including sports days, inter-school events, and outdoor learning opportunities where appropriate.

They will also contribute to school-wide accreditation and strategic planning processes as required, and liaise with the PE/PHE department and wider faculty to share professional expertise and best practice.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a recognised teaching qualification in Physical Education, Physical and Health Education, or a closely related field, appropriate to the age groups taught. A minimum of two years of IB experience, ideally spanning both PYP and MYP, is strongly preferred. Native or near-native English fluency is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a genuine passion for student well-being, a collaborative and flexible working style, and a solid understanding of inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches to physical education. First Aid certification is desirable.

Salary

€26,000–€28,000 gross per annum.
