Welcome From our Head Of School

At ISB, we prepare students for a global future with infinite possibilities. As an independent, internationally accredited school, we offer a holistic, future-focused education in English to students from Reception (3 years) to Grade 12. Our students and staff are proud to come from diverse backgrounds, allowing us to celebrate and learn from one another’s perspectives, enhancing the richness of a truly international school experience. Underpinned by the academically rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years (PYP)-, Middle Years (MYP)- and Diploma (DP) programmes, our inspiring faculty place our students at the center and encourage them to believe in their own abilities, follow their hearts, and take bold intellectual risks. We understand that each child is unique and we empower our students through a variety of interdisciplinary, inquiry-led approaches to learning and teaching, allowing them to develop into analytical, critical, and creative problem-solvers, with the expectation that each and everyone becomes an independent learner who creates meaning from their experiences. No other framework for transferable learning than the IB fits better with our vision of developing students who are compassionate and open-minded global citizens, equipped with skills for lifelong learning that enable them to take action to create a just and sustainable world. The holistic academic breadth and depth of the IB programs are simply unparalleled, which is why the IB Diploma is recognized worldwide as the finest preparation for college and university.

In our culturally and intellectually rich host city, Bologna, with one of the oldest universities in continuous operation (founded in 1088) as well as home to some of the most extraordinary designs in the global marketplace, we see ourselves as part of a reflective, innovative, and adaptive ecosystem, where we can be dedicated to inspiring student-centered learning and well-being. Our parents, as partners in their children’s education, and the wider community play an integral role in the life of our school. We encourage all parents, new and returning, to become actively involved with our Parents Association, helping to ensure ISB remains a welcoming and warm family environment.

We welcome you to find your place in our community!

Sincerely,

Janecke Aarnaes
