ADMISSIONS POLICY
The Board of Governors wishes to offer a high quality international education to both host country nationals and to children of expatriate families.
Each completed application will be treated equitably and priority for entry shall be given to families with siblings already enrolled at the school. All other applications will be processed in strict chronological order and in compliance with the stated Admissions Procedure.
The Principal may allow the admission of children over and above the agreed class capacity only if the applicants are from the international community and there are no viable options for their education in Bologna.
The International School of Bologna will admit students who can benefit from the international education offered by the school. A child with special, educational and social needs will only be admitted if the school can offer a programme that will meet their individual needs.
Students who have no working knowledge of the English language may be accepted into the school on the understanding that, from ES 1 onwards, they will have to financially support, the tuition for an English as a Second Language programme for their child. This would be for a minimum the first academic year of their attendance at the school.
Parents of students who develop a need for a Learning Support Programme during the course of their enrollment at school may be required to contribute financially to a Learning Support Programme.
Classes are primarily based on the student’s date of birth and years of full time teaching. The threshold for each age band will be determined by the age of the child on December 31st. The exception to this relates to entry into the EY 1 class. Children will be admitted to this class on achieving their 2nd birthday.
Parents who may wish placement for their child in a grade level other than the one indicated by the Admissions Policy can only do so following the recommendation of the Principal.
