Assessing and Reporting Learning

Assessing Learning

The purpose of assessment is to inform instruction (in order to improve each student’s learning) and report learning.

At ISB teachers use a variety of assessment strategies and tools to identify a child’s strengths and areas in which learning may require support.

Students play a part in assessing their own learning, this helps to develop responsibility and personal commitment. Students are informed of explicit learning outcomes and work together with teachers to develop goals and strategies to constantly review and improve their learning.

Reporting Learning

Parents receive two written reports during the school year. These reports are given to parents in February and June each year. These provide feedback against the learning outcomes.

The school sends home ‘End of Unit Reports’ following the conclusion of each Unit of Inquiry.

There are student-led conferences once a year, where students celebrate learning with their parents.

We recommend regular contact with teachers so that families can come to understand the aims of the programme, to best support their child’s learning at home.
