Music


In Music, students develop their knowledge and understanding of Music in society. Students listen to a variety of music and respond to what they have learned through singing, playing instruments and creating their own musical compositions.

Students explore the following strands:

Listening and Appreciation
Students identify and describe various musical elements and concepts, and learn to make personal musical decisions through both an active and reflective process.

Music in Society
Students learn about the role music plays in society and in diverse cultures, both historical and contemporary.

Creating and Composing
Students use musical experience, imagination and suggestions to generate and organize sounds. They use a variety of media to create compositions that communicate or record specific ideas or moods and use experience and imagination to improvise and practice creative movement to music.

Notation
Students use traditional and non-traditional notation to read, interpret and record compositions, and recreate compositions.

Performing – singing
Students use voice, to perform individually and as part of an ensemble for an audience in formal and informal settings.

Performing – playing instruments
Students use a range of instruments to perform individually and as part of an ensemble for an audience in formal and informal settings.
